The River Trail Nature Center
This peaceful nature sanctuary includes a scenic unpaved trail that’s almost two miles long and comfortably shaded with trees. The River Trail Nature Center is an educational resource, and there are many strategically placed plaques all around the park that provide information about the local plants and wildlife. For a longer run or bike ride, you can continue onto the Des Plaines Trail system, which winds along its namesake river for more than 20 miles.
This well-maintained urban park is great for walking, running, or biking on a 1.8-mile long one-way trail around Lake Glenview. There are several spaces weaving around the park to explore, including tennis courts, a bridge, and a fishing pier. Gallery Park also has many opportunities to spot wildlife, including turtles, starlings, and nesting birds. Sunscreen and a hat are recommended for making the most of this sunny trail, although there are shady areas too. Enjoy beautiful scenery, including wide green fields that are great for flying a kite or rolling out a mat for some outdoor yoga.
Take a leisurely stroll down a winding nature trail loop that covers 1.5 miles. The Grove is a National Historic Landmark that protects 145 acres of beautiful prairie grove land. This trail is partially boardwalk and part gravel, but a mostly flat terrain that’s ideal for hikers at every level. Going on this nature walk provides wonderful bird-watching opportunities and you can also spot deer, coyotes, and a huge variety of native plants.Back to all posts
